This week we talked a lot about leadership styles. We particularly went over strictly organized leadership contrasting a freedom type of
leadership. I like to point out how the first president of the Mormon church—Joseph Smith, was known to have snow ball fights with the children, even though an upcoming mob was threatening the community. He seemed to have a strong value in play.
A recent tweet said “Being passionate about something isn't enough. You gotta love the process, too”.
The many times I have been place in a leadership style, I most often find the best results come from a higher amount of freedom organized with extensive appropriate rewards.
I volunteered to teach young teenagers in my church and have found the students learn the best when given the right motivation. So we created an economy of reward points to students when they enjoy something they have learned or at least said something interesting about it. These points are built up to by candies at the end of the class.
Other organizations however will function a little bit differently. For example I doubt Microsoft gives candies to those who enjoy their work. However let’s point out, I could easily imagine Steve Jobs giving out rewards to such employees. Both business giants are great at making money, yet both have unique leadership styles.
To learn more about this I recommend reading Fortune Magazine’s recent article about Apple.
